Dealing with Cameron Estate Agents was quite honestly one of the most stressful periods of my entire life. I rented a property through them which was not fit for purpose from the outset. Shortly after moving in, I discovered the cooker hob did not work, TV aerial points did not work, bathroom extractor fan was broken, security light in garden did not work and the poorly fitted power sockets meant you couldn't actually insert any plugs. There were no windows in the bedroom (only a set of French doors) which meant you couldn't ventilate the room properly at night and this led to a huge damp issue which destroyed so many of my personal possessions. I had to throw away numerous pairs of shoes, some items of clothing, a chest of draws and my bed and mattress (the room was so damp there was mould growing everywhere!). It was a continuous battle to have these issues addressed and Cameron completely failed to manage the arrangement of repair work. Instead, they would just forward a number of a workman and have me arrange the repairs myself. Given there was so much wrong with the property, this became extremely time consuming and I found it very difficult to coordinate all of the repairs alongside my full time job. As managing agents this is surely Cameron's responsibility. The damp situation should never have got to a point where so many of my items were destroyed but Cameron just kept telling me they couldn't reach the landlord as he was out of the country so there was nothing they could do. In the meantime, I was left in an uninhabitable flat yet still paying full rent. In summary, Cameron were at fault as follows: Failed to provide me with a copy of the inventory and check-in report, breached the tenancy agreement by failing to provide me with proof of compliance as to the holding of my deposit, breached the Consumer Rights Act by failing to provide me with a list of fees/charges, breached the Data Protection Act by disclosing my personal information without seeking prior consent, Michelle Mellars providing me with false and misleading information in relation to my legal right to know who my Landlord is, letting out a property that is not in rentable condition from the outset and failing to manage the maintenance process and leaving me open to discourteous text messages from contractors. Despite their breaking of numerous laws, tenants in this country really have very little rights and there is no one to enforce action or hold the landlord/estate agent responsible. Despite this, I informed Cameron that I would be bringing various claims against them in a Court of law at which point they quite literally held me ransom. Despite the flat being uninhabitable due to severe mould issues (which is against the legal requirements of renting out a property), they would not release me early from my contract unless I signed to say I wouldn't bring any claims against them. Crooked, right? I couldn't continue to pay rent on a property I wasn't living in and so I was left no choice but to sign. Cameron backed me into a corner to protect their own interests - utterly despicable but I guess it shows they clearly knew they were in trouble. I was therefore unable to claim any compensation for all of the furniture and possessions I lost through their incompetence. Although I was not able to bring any legal claims against Cameron, I did report them to Trading Standards who later sent me an email to confirm they had uncovered a number of issues and would be enforcing action. All I can say is please think twice about using Cameron, particularly if you are a tenant. I would hate for anyone else to go through what I did.

Should you have not felt that your matter was adequately remedied you have further recourse by way of a complaints procedure to the Property Ombudsman who will consider the correspondence sent and received between the parties and the steps taken by this Company in trying to remedy the issues which you have raised. As a professional organisation we do not wish to enter a debate on public platforms such as this and strongly urge that if you are unsatisfied with any elements of the service that you have received thus far, to please follow the correct complaints procedures with our Company and the accredited trade bodies that we are members of. Mar 27, 2018I'm afraid your standard copy and paste" response makes little sense in this matter and is a typical example of Cameron's lack of professionalism and respect for tenants. If you had read my review or looked into the matter at all, you will have seen that I did indeed exhaust Cameron's complaints process. Despite the Landlord offering to release me early from the contract (due to the property being unfit for purpose), Cameron refused to let me leave until I signed to say I would not bring any claims against CAMERON. This is completely unacceptable. The agreement was between myself and the landlord only. The fact you introduced an additional condition to protect your own selves is both highly inappropriate and unprofessional. In effect, you held me ransom in an inhabitable property until such time as I agreed not to bring any claims against you – notwithstanding the fact the Landlord had already agreed to release me. This kind of behaviour is wholly immoral and you should feel utterly ashamed of yourselves.

What will happen next?
We will send you a letter acknowledging receipt of your complaint within three working days of receiving it, enclosing a copy of this procedure.
We will then investigate your complaint. This will normally be dealt with by the Office Manager who will review your file and speak to the member of staff who dealt with you. A formal written outcome of our investigation will be sent to you within 15 working days of sending the acknowledgement letter.
If, at this stage, you are still not satisfied, you should contact us again and we will arrange for a separate review to take place by a senior member of staff.
We will write to you within 15 working days of receiving your request for a review, confirming our final viewpoint on the matter.
