Lee also referred to as Lee Green, is taken from the old English word Leah meaning clearing in the woods.
Lee is a small parish town nestled between Blackheath and Lewisham with plenty of green spaces and rich in history with a good selection of Victorian housing stock.
Lee was once a place for the wealthy London merchants to live, several numbers of large country houses were built in the 17th and 18 centuries. The three that survive today are the Manor House, Pentland House both in Old Road and the Cedars on Belmont Hill now part of a housing development.
Lee New Town (Church Street, Boone Street, etc.) was built from 1825 to house the wealthy residents in the larger houses.
In 1866 Lee Station was opened, which made it practical for a broader range of people who worked in central London to live in Lee and commute. Houses were built for these new settlers, typically civil servants, merchants, and professionals, on what had been farmland, and most of the area was built up by 1914. The central focus of Lee shifted from Lee High Road to Burnt Ash Road, between Lee Green and the station.
The railway line splits the area in two, the northern half towards Blackheath being somewhat more sought after. Here you’ll find the Lee Manor Conversation Area with its pale brick Victorian terrace houses with mainly beautiful front gardens.
Today you will find an excellent selection of period properties ranging from the late Victorian and Edwardian to the pre-war semi-detached homes.
Lee train station is located on Burnt Ash Hill (travel zone 3) trains from Lee reach London Bridge in 13 minutes.
There also are plenty of open green spaces, one of which is Manor House Gardens is the most significant park which also boasts a lake and tennis courts.
There is also a selection of cafes and coffee shops, including the local favourite Italian restaurant Luciano’s situated on Burnt Ash Road. The Lord Northbrook is the popular local pub with a range of excellent beers and live music.
Leegate shopping Centre is soon to be replaced with a vast supermarket as part of the £80 million regeneration scheme.
There is a good range of primary schools such as Brindishe Green in Beacons Road, Brindishe Lee in Wantage Road and Lee Manor School in Leahurst Road.
There is one secondary school in Lee, which is Trinity secondary school located on Taunton Road.
It’s no surprise that more and more residents are flocking to Lee with its relative ease of transport into central London a good choice of primary schools, plenty of open green spaces and a great community feel.

First time buyer said about Conran

Myself and my Partner our in the process of looking to buy a house. We saw a really nice property with the Lee branch of Conran.
Initially we got the impression the staff where somewhat disorganised but we thought nothing of it until we made an offer and this is where the service all fell apart.
Having made an initial opening offer we were told we would receive communication from Conran requesting our best and final offer. This never happen and after 24hrs. We contacted Conran to be told on the phone that the branch manager had decided not ask interested parties for their best and final offers because he put off from the amount of work it would take and only sent the two highest offers to the seller. This is paraphrasing from the negotiator who we spoke with on the phone.
Having obliviously flagged that we have not made a final offer Conran 48hrs later agreed to send our offer to the seller. Thankfully this was done and we followed that same old process of waiting to hear back. However this took another week. All in all it has taken two weeks from our initial offer to get final word from the seller and we can now draw a close to our saga with Conran.
I would highly recommend chasing this estate agent every step of the way as they have a habit of saying one thing and doing another.
This maybe normal when buying a house but as first time buyer our experience bidding for a house has been extra stressful and from what we can gather completely avoidable should the staff at Conan honor their words and communicate witch each other efficiently then the experience we had my have been a whole lot better.

I was thoroughly impressed by the professionalism of Rob & Mickaela for our purchase. Viewings were arranged in a timely manner and questions we had prior to making an offer were followed up quickly and satisfactorily answered. Rob & Mickaela made sure we had access to all areas of the property. All this gave us a lot of confidence to put in an offer. We really appreciated how the Last and Final Offer process was handled as this was handled in a fair and clear way. The financial checks on the quality of the offer were really good to see too. Once the offer was accepted, Rob & Mickaela were very diligent in making sure the sale went through as they chased solicitors where necessary and were very responsive with any further questions we had. This approach really helped everyone involved, it provided confidence to the seller and buyer as well as maximises the chances of the sale to going through as quickly as possible. Our purchase was a very smooth process all in all, we had no surprises during the process we completed within 3 months from our initial viewing. So, Rob & Mickaela, thank you for all your good work!

I contacted Conran on 18th Jan, Rob (Lee Office Manager) came to my property and valued it on 21st Jan, the negotiators came round on 24th to get a feel of the flat, photos were taken on 25th and my property with photos and video went “live” on 26th Jan. I had 12 viewings over that weekend, and I accepted an offer on 1st Feb – Conran sold my property within two weeks at a great price!!!!
Conran were speedy, proactive, personal and very professional. They understood the position I was in and did all what they could. The photos, video and write up did my flat proud ,and I love the personal touch of adding my comments about the property. Conran were in constant contact with me, keeping me posted with any developments. The whole process was very smooth, and for me, it was effortless – all the hard work was done by Conran – thank you!!!
