Dear... As you are aware, I was surprised and disappointed that you initially refused to release the deposit funds to me, or provide me with my keys, until I agreed to allow the cost of an inventory clerk and cleaning to be deducted from the deposit. I am pleased that you have now agreed to release the full deposit to me, although I do not regard this in any way as a concession or favour on your part. I hardly need remind you, but nonetheless for the record, the tenant that you introduced, and recommended, to me proved to be utterly disastrous. She paid no rent and left the house abruptly and in a terrible condition. I believe you signally failed in your duty of care and responsibility towards me, your client, in a number of respects. You provided me with no evidence that you properly checked the tenant's references but instead assured me that she was a 'good tenant'. The only monetary sum you secured from her was the deposit itself and thereafter you failed to secure the monthly rental amounts from her or to flag this up as a cause for concern at an early enough stage. The deposit amount falls well short of the rental amounts I am owed, let alone the cost of making good the cost of damages. As I explained to you, I saw no point whatsoever in my losing even more money through an overpriced inventory check cost and cleaning cost (which should be borne by the tenant anyway). If you had not agreed to release the full deposit sum, I would have taken, through my solicitor, the next step in terms of seeking cost reparations from yourselves arising from your negligence. In short, I believe that you badly let me down. Yours sincerely. Katie kiss
