My husband and I found an apartment we really liked and the agent told us that no one made an offer on it for the last 8 months, and encouraged us to make an offer, even if it was low. We did just that, and she immediately came back and told us that someone made a higher offer at the same time, and asked if we could go higher. It was already suspicious how she found these other people to make a higher offer the moment we submitted ours, but we decided we liked the place, and increased our offer. The 'other bidder' didn't want to go higher, and we agreed on a price with the seller and started the process of buying our first home, so we have our own nest in a few months when our first baby arrived. On Rightmove it wrote that the property was no longer available, which was comforting. We hired solicitors and got the mortgage broker involved in obtaining the mortgage for us. The broker was slow and not very good, so we hired another guy, and three weeks into the process, we had the funds pre approved. At this stage, Candy, our agent, called us and said that someone who'd seen the property 7 months earlier (?!) had called her and made a higher offer than ours, and that she was obligated to pass that onto the vendors. Where were all these offers coming from, if no one had made an offer on the flat the previous 8 months? I wouldn't be surprised if the moment we made our first offer, she started calling anyone who previously expressed an interest to let them know someone made an offer and try to get them to do the same. The new offer was quite a bit higher, so we missed out on the apartment, as well as lost money on solicitors and the mortgage broker for no reason. Not to mention all the time we wasted because we have a baby on the way and the clock is ticking. Overall a very disappointing experience â do not trust Atkinson McLeod as all they want is to make an extra buck and don't care about you as a buyer in the least.

1 week's rent in fees - which is London is a tidy sum for doing very little. The landlord was also amazed and appalled to hear that we'd been charged this much.
