Was about to rent a flat, they told me that I just had to get back home and pay a reservation fee of 750£ and they assured me that once that was done I would get the flat under the terms we had agreed on and that I had noting to worry about. I completed the payment as soon as I got home and right after they received it they called saying that that the terms had changed and if I wanted to rent it I now needed to pay a year upfront and also more importantly pay more then the original price we agreed on , these two things made the deal completely different then what it was originally meant to be and made it lose all of it's value so I told them that I couldn't go with these new terms and they refused to go back to the original ones. When I asked them to give me back the amount of reservation fee they refused and said that it was my fault if I didn't accept the new conditions and that they would keep the money. I kept asking them politely many times and pleading my case to get the money back but nothing. They kept saying that I was the one who pulled out when in reality they just came up with some new terms that were simply impossible to accept and they know it. Just a all around nightmare to work with from start to finish (hard to join/uncooperative ect...) and got scammed out of 750£
Kindly note that legally, letting agents need to publish information about their tenancy fees, government-approved redress schemes and client money protection schemes on their website and on third party websites (on which agents are listed). For properties to lease/rent in England, agents need to keep this information up to date and precise on allAgents or specify within the property description.
