Single mother of 2 said about Bourne Estate Agents

We had a buyer and I had an onward purchase set to complete in December. Our buyer wanted to complete in September. The agent said they would not tell the buyer that my completion date was not until December so as not to frighten her off. I thought this was unprofessional and could put her in an awkward position with her rental property and plans and said she should be told. The agent asked me if I would vacate the property early to secure the sale to which I said absolutely not, there was no possible way I could or would do this, it was a very strong and hard NO. My ex husband offered me a reduction in his legal fees payable by me to cover my rent if I moved early however this offer was insultingly pitiful and would not have covered moving costs and even 1 month's rent and deposit, never mind the 3 months required plus associated costs and hassle. I declined the offer and said there was absolutely no chance at all that I would be vacating early but that I would vacate on completion of my onward purchase. The agent then said that in that case our buyer had pulled out of the sale and our chain had collapsed. I tried for a week to contact the agent to discuss remarketing only to be told the agent dealing with it was in meetings or out of the office. I then received the contract to sign from my solicitor. I questioned why I was being asked to sign the contract when the buyer had pulled out only for my ex husband to say she hadn't and that they were intending to complete in 8 working days time and I was expected to leave. I own the house jointly with my ex, I am a single mother with 2 children and am on an extremely low budget, this would have been entirely impossible and caused me and my children huge stress, anxiety and upset. I contacted the agent to ask why the sale was progressing given the situation and why I hadn't been told only to be told it was not their problem. I then spoke to the buyer who said that she knew my ex husband had offered me money to cover my rent, which she could only have known from Bourne. This was a private arrangement which should not have been disclosed to her. My ex husband also had a lot of information about my onward purchase which I had made clear was not to be disclosed to him given his long history of abuse towards me. I cannot prove this came from Bourne but it would have taken a lot of underhand sneaky behaviour for him to find these details out on his own and I would not be surprised if it did indeed come from Bourne. My ex husband also told me that the agent was looking for a suitable place for me to rent and was going to arrange it, without any agreement or participation from me as if I would just be relocated and sent the bill against my will and without my even approving the new place or knowing it was happening. The relationship between the agent and myself has now broken down entirely and communication is no longer possible or desired but their behaviour in this has been appalling. I had to make an urgent application to court for an emergency hearing which has cost me over £1000 I do not have. This should have been a very simple process with clear and timely communication and honesty, and instead has become a living nightmare causing insurmountable stress and upset, significant unnecessary expense and incredible acrimony all around and was entirely avoidable. I do not know what exactly they though they were doing or how this would ever be in any way acceptable behaviour but this needs addressing and potential clients should be warned. Choosing Bourne was a horrible decision I regret entirely.

As a result, when we recently decided to sell a rental property, we contacted them for help. It only took 6 weeks from the day we engaged Bourne to the sale completing. This is quite simply down to their knowledge of the local market and their strong network. The service throughout was excellent and the process was seamless. I cannot recommend them highly enough for their professionalism, honesty and integrity.

They have very good reviews from property owners and awful reviews from tenants and I know exactly why. Owners are their customers, people looking for a house to rent are just an inconvenience. They have teenagers with no experience whatsoever to show you houses they have never put a foot in and obviously when you want to negotiate the price, they have no power to decide anything so they will tell you that they tried to lower the price without even talking to the landlord. As expected, the fees are insane (almost £800 in total, don't forget to add the check in and check out fees) and the contract is a list of abusive conditions charging the tenant for even breathing. Don't even think for a moment that you a renting your new home, you are a dirty outsider, a loser in life that cannot even buy a house.

As part of my job, I sell and buy at least one property a year so I am not a novice and I can confidently spot amateurish performance when I see it. I one hundred percent agree with the comments that Paul left on 15th August 2016. I only wish I had seen his valuable comments earlier and taken serious notice of them. Please read them and take note of them as it seems the same pattern of behaviour is still happening. I am not going to go to details of what happened to me throughout this case for now as the case is under review by the Managing Director of Bourne, Mr. Dominic Bruneau, but rest assured that I would give you further updates on how this matter progresses.
Update (1) - 25 August 2018 - Not only the intervention of the Managing Director did not bear any fruit but I was entered into another sale transaction that failed worse than the first one! I have now decided to send a body of evidence to a number of property ombudsmen, as well as seeking legal advise. I will provide further updates.

I was looking for a rental with Bourne and was lied to from the start - even about basic details about the property. Trying to get this £500 back was incredibility difficult and took nearly a week - despite them being at fault. Communication was absolutely appalling from Bourne and I cannot even imagine what they would be like managing the property had the offer gone through. I would strongly and wholeheartedly suggest people to AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

As the old saying goes, you only know how good something is when things go wrong. We rented a shared student house for our daughter through Bourne but found a few issues with her room. A huge thank you to Victor Addison at the Guildford branch who took the time and trouble to sort all the issues out. They also managed a very quick turn around of a week to get us in the property!

They arrogantly tried to claim that a chain would make a difference. They pressured us and our solicitors to complete on a particular date, only to find out that the sellers had no idea about the completion date. They put all on the blame on us because we were first time buyers- so an easy target. this left us homeless for weeks, so you can imagine the stress. There are so many estate agents on the high street, save your self stress and money, please please AVOID at all cost.

I have been most impressed with Bourne because they achieve very good results and I have a high level of confidence that they will perform. In particular I have found that Ross has a very good perception of the market dynamics and I have valued his frank advice.
