Took 5 and a half hours after the time of the closing date to find out (after I sent an email asking) that I hadn't been successful in making an offer for a house. Was the highest bidder, but the seller went with the second highest bidder as they have apparently sold their house already (which is their right of course).
Not told what the offer was that was accepted. Not kept updated at all on the day. No doubt will say that was on the sellers estate agents and they were chased, but still should have updated me rather than having to ask at 4.00 pm. Actually found out through the ESPC website beforehand that the house was “under offer” so knew I was unsuccessful having had no contact from them.
Have used them twice to try and buy a house in the area I want and they have failed each time. Get it's a sought after area, but that's Edinburgh in most parts.
I'll use Nielsen's in future and maybe they should stick to first time buyers and fixed prices. Could have made a lot on selling mine too, but failure comes at a cost as they say.

We had a great experience selling our flat in the Leith Walk area of Edinburgh through VMH. I met with several solicitors and estate agents in order to try and make the decision about who to sell with. Kevin came to meet me at the flat and I found him to give a really balanced opinion on our flat - optimism mixed with realism. He seemed trustworthy. We decided to go with VMH and the services was brilliant throughout. Great communication from them, smart and attractive brochure, every staff member we spoke to was friendly and helpful, and we got a price for our flat that was well above our expectations. We were essentially selling it remotely which VMH made really easy. The guy they recommended to smarten up the flat before sale was nothing short of amazing! I was confidently recommend these guys to anyone.

I'm afraid I had a pretty bad time with VMH overall - they are good at marketing and the admin staff are lovely, I'll give them that, but had some shocking blunders from them. I used them several times and each time there was a negative. The first time I was shouted at by the owner of South Clerk street when I asked very simple question. In his defence he knew his business well but he retired so I went to the Easter Road branch. BIG mistake. The first time I sold a buy to let flat with them it was under valued. The owner didn't know the area as well as he should have. They also made a major mistake on the contract and I had to correct several mistakes. I gave the benefit of the doubt though and went to sell a third time with them. The owner of the Easter Road branch completely over valued my property and I knew he had. I even had to suggest that it was too high and we went with a lower, albeit still inflated valuation. I know the market well and I had doubts but went on their advice. The house was immaculate, very tastefully decorated (white walls, white kitchen, newly sanded dark wood floors, modern art on the walls and vintage furniture). Every house I'd sold had been the highest selling on the street but on the first day I had not one person through the door. I knew instantly it was the price but they kept making excuses that it was the holidays etc. There it sat and I took matters into my own hands and took it off market. They hinted that I wouldn't have to pay if it was relisted again the following year but then ended up charging the full amount. I chose the price the next year and was bombarded with viewers and it sold to a closing date as the highest selling house in the street - from my own judgement and price. They also made several mistakes again on the contracts, one of them being the sold price! Just as well I checked. VMH still failed to admit it was their fault it didn't sell - the guy just didn't have a clue what the market price should have been. The sales reps were pretty useless and gave no advice whatsoever on what offers to accept etc. My sister's flat was also completely undervalued and they were very negative to her even though her house is lovely. Not using again.

We shall try to make sure that you are entirely happy with the service that we offer to you. If, for any reason, you are unhappy about the quality of service or any other aspect of the way we have dealt with you or your transaction, then we would ask you, in the first instance, to take the matter up with the solicitor with whom you have been dealing. Alternatively, should you feel more comfortable, of if you feel your initial approach has not resolved the matter, we would invite you to raise the matter with Robin Hill, our Client Relations Partner who is based at our South Clerk Street Office. Mr. Hill will discuss with you the nature of your complaint before investigating the matter and reporting back to you as soon as possible.
If, however, after investigation by the Client Relations Partner, you are still not satisfied, you are of course at liberty to refer the matter to the Scottish Legal Complaints Commission, 10-14 Waterloo Place, Edinburgh, EH1 3EQ (Tel: 0131 528 5111).
