On first viewing the property I knew this was the flat I was looking for, so right then my partner and I paid the referencing fees for him and myself and then the tenancy agreement fee. We were then told to pick a day to move, the date happened to be over a week ago. A day before we were due to move, we were all packed we were told that we would need two guarantors, one for each of us. So we provided these guarantors and then we were told we would be in the property within 5 days. I phoned Connells this morning to confirm that everything had gone well and that we would be able to move tomorrow and was told that they were unable to gain a reference for one of the guarantors as he is self employed, however owns his own home. I was told that his business manager would be able to confirm his details and prove he is who he says he is but this was not the case, the reference was refused. At 5:30 this evening I got a phone call saying that he will need to take in his tax returns. However I have only been given all of this information after they took my money, I have paid the fully amount for 4 references, and the tenancy agreement and am now being messed around, if this had been made apparent before I had paid I would have been able to sort this issue out. I have all of my current property boxed up or in storage, I have recently cancelled the storage due to being told I would be moving this week. I now need to find another storage unit or lose everything. This has been very expensive for me and I am now being told that it is going to take another week! I first put money down over 3 weeks ago now. I have tried to contact the agent that is ‘supposed' to be dealing with this but every time they are unavailable, however when I managed to gain their direct number they answered first time.
Kindly note that legally, letting agents need to publish information about their tenancy fees, government-approved redress schemes and client money protection schemes on their website and on third party websites (on which agents are listed). For properties to lease/rent in England, agents need to keep this information up to date and precise on allAgents or specify within the property description.
