Had been looking for a place in Petersfield for a few months. Put sealed bids on a place through Cubitts, and eventually was chosen as buyer. Everything seemed okay to this point, then things slowly went downhill. Was forced to use the same solicitor as the seller (was told we had to do this to secure it). Paid for all surveys, legal costs, etc. Solicitors - LS law, located somewhere up north. Absolutely the worst law firm to deal with, liars, and inept. Over the course of several months was promised sale was progressing, when we had distinct feeling things were not going well. Of note, branch manager Richard Coyle was a particularly slippery character, who lied about the situation repeatedly. In the final stages of the sale falling through, he avoided calls, and even hid upstairs in the local office. These characters seem to have a total contempt for valid buyers. I was often told how lucky I was to be purchasing the property. In a sellers market they can afford to be like this I suppose, I wonder how they will change their tune if and when it becomes a buyers market. I would say avoid at all costs, but unfortunately if your dream property is listed with them, be prepared for a rocky ride!
Kindly note that legally, letting agents need to publish information about their tenancy fees, government-approved redress schemes and client money protection schemes on their website and on third party websites (on which agents are listed). For properties to lease/rent in England, agents need to keep this information up to date and precise on allAgents or specify within the property description.
