It's actually an unremarkable former mill village which, in recent years, has completely outgrown its meagre supporting infrastructure. New arrivals will find that both the local primary schools are full and there is no local secondary school. They will also struggle to register at the very busy village Health Centre, or with the only (private) dentist. There are some pubs, coffee shops an Italian restaurant and a few speciality shops. The only Chemist, the Post Office and the small Sainsburys convenience store are all situated in the Carrington Centre which is a former mill site and has serious parking issues, particularly at busy times. The surrounded roads are inadequate the existing volume of traffic and long queues form trying to enter and leave the village at peak times. Anyone hoping to commute to / from Manchester or Liverpool in less than an hour, even on a good day, will be sorely disappointed.
